The name “Charleston” is a wink at the 1920s, and this exquisite piece keeps the promise, drawing heavily on the glamorous Art Deco aesthetic.
Fashioned in eighteen-karat rose gold, the case measures just sixteen millimeters across, giving it the proportions of the classic ladies' cocktail watches produced between the wars. The bezel and lugs are pavé-set with brilliant-cut diamonds, framing the dial in an uninterrupted border of light. Against the warm gold dial, ruby hour markers provide measured points of color, their crimson recalling one of the combinations most favored by Parisian jewelers during the Art Deco period, when rubies and diamonds were frequently paired for their striking contrast.
Inside is a Swiss quartz movement. By the 1990s, quartz had long ceased to be a novelty and had become the logical choice for jewellery watches of this kind. The Charleston was conceived as a petite object d’art to be worn effortlessly.
A black alligator strap reinforces the geometry of the case, its deep matte surface setting off the warmth of the rose gold and the brilliance of the diamonds. The Charleston, after all, was never a wallflower.
