In 1858, Frédéric Boucheron opened his first boutique beneath the arcades of the Palais Royal in Paris, opposite a sundial engravedHoras non numero nisi serenas. That inscription became the founding idea behind everything the house would make to mark time. Boucheron presented its first pocket watches in 1859 and wristwatches in 1885. The house’s defining watch, the Reflet, arrived in 1947 by Gérard Boucheron, Frédéric’s grandson, who stripped a wristwatch to pure architecture. Vintage Reflets remain the collector’s entry point into a Maison still better known for stones than movements, proof Boucheron was a watchmaker with unusually good taste in gems.
