This stunning Vacheron Constantin embodies the kind of glamour that exceeds any era. A Monte Carlo terrace at dusk in the 50s, a Manhattan dining room after dark in the 80s, this weekend in Paris.
The case is 18-karat white gold, oval and architectural, surrounded by 4.20 carats of baguette diamonds. Baguettes cast a special light, they don’t just spill over. Their long, straight facets give light direction. They form an elegant frame around a dark-grey dial, and the effect is almost chromatic: white gold, white fire, charcoal grey. The diamonds illuminate the edge; the grey absorbs the center. The watch reads like a chiaroscuro sketch in precious materials.
The bracelet is a woven 18k white gold, a tight, repeating pattern that behaves like fabric. On the wrist it drapes, and the weave breaks up reflections into fine, soft highlights. The manual-wind movement preserves the old ritual of ownership.
1755 is the beginning of an uninterrupted watchmaking history. Jean-Marc Vacheron established his workshop that year, and by 1819 François Constantin had joined the firm, giving the house the name by which it is still known.
