A radiant vestige from the golden era of mod futurism, the Pierre Cardin Espace PC112 is a wearable artifact of a visionary decade. Released between 1971 and 1973, this avant-garde timepiece was born from an electrifying collaboration between Jaeger-LeCoultre, the storied Swiss-French horologer, and Pierre Cardin, the Parisian couturier who dressed The Beatles, dreamt up NASA spacesuits, and turned the Space Age into a fashion movement.
The PC112 is among the rarest and most iconic expressions of the Espace collection, a capsule of timepieces designed to reimagine time as a sculptural experience. The present example features the series’ most coveted composition: a stack of three concentric Lucite disks in brilliant translucent electric blue, stepping upward like a staircase to the stars. These circular layers, gleaming with shifting reflections, create an illusion of movement even when the watch is still, a kinetic homage to orbits, propulsion, and planetary form. Encased in stainless steel and fitted with its original blue vinyl strap and silver-tone "C" buckle, this piece is a complete time capsule, from case to clasp.
The dial is minimal yet striking: a white field framed in polished metal, black hands floating above pared-down indices, and the classic Pierre Cardin logo inscribed beneath 12 o'clock, with "MADE IN FRANCE" discreetly printed below. Time-setting occurs in reverse, a clever twist that challenges convention and underscores the object’s artistic nature. Mechanical wind, because even the future needed winding in 1971.
In a horological landscape dominated by classicism, the PC112 remains a radical outlier, a reminder that there was a moment when Paris dreamed of Mars.
