The Tubogas is one of the few watch designs that can point to an industrial origin without losing any of its artistic authority. The form is a tightly coiled ribbon of articulated metal that began life in the early 20th century as a flexible conduit for pressurized gas, then reappeared in the 1940s when wartime scarcity pushed jewelers toward ingenuity and new aesthetic possibilities. Bulgari recognized the potential and, by the late 20th century, Tubogas had become a house signature rather than a curiosity.
This BB191T6 from the 1990s reflects that transformation. The 18k yellow-gold wrap bracelet scales fluidly around the wrist, eliminating the usual divide between watch and jewelry. The quartz movement serves the design by keeping focus on the architecture rather than the mechanism beneath it. The minimal round black dial gives the gold its stage, making the profile instantly recognizable.
